About Citizen Mead

For us it started many years ago working and volunteering for counter-trafficking organizations.

Like many of you, we were horrified by the problem and threw our energy into solving it. However, our energy slowly depleted when we began realizing there wasn’t much we could actually do. We could only be asked to “Read our book!” or “Attend our banquet!” so many times. And to make matters worse, it seemed like a new counter-trafficking organization sprung up every day proffering awareness programs cloaked as action items.

And so, like many of you, the emotions we experienced when encountering the problem of human trafficking so outmatched the solutions we were given that we eventually became frustrated - or worse, apathetic.

Of course many of those organizations are doing powerful work and provide inspiring examples of hope, but we realized that most were still stumbling on a key concept: what do we do with volunteers?

We read every counter-trafficking article we could, analyzed every data point published, tried a number of approaches ourselves, and slowly began to see patterns. Over time those patterns were documented, those documents were edited, those edits became a gameplan, and that gameplan became a clear vision:

teach ordinary citizens just like us how to take down human trafficking.

If you’ve ever wondered if you could do more to fight human trafficking, you can.

Welcome, Citizen.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”

- Margaret Mead
